We are seeking a PostgreSQL DBA to work in a fast-paced environment in our Helena office. Ideal candidates must be enthused about database administration, a quick learner and self-starting. The role will require hands-on experience with database management, Linux, cloud environments, networking and security. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, including maintenance of databases for corporate and development environments. Desired skills include database tuning, maintenance, PSQL and Linux administration. This position is on call 24/7 and includes production support.
Desired Skills: Ubuntu, AWS, Performance Tuning, Replication and NOSQL, PostgreSQL, and an opportunity to work with MySQL.
Key responsibilities include:
- Be responsible for day-to-day PostgreSQL database administration and monitoring. Keep the database operational and responsive, with minimal downtime.
- Work with senior Database Integration Engineer on database design and implementation of enhancements.
- Help developers to optimize queries, develop stored procedures, and ensure consistent database design.
- Communicate database knowledge and experience to impart best practices to application developers.
- Fine tune database queries and create, refresh and rebuild indexes as appropriate.
- Setup & maintenance of PostgreSQL master-slave clusters utilizing streaming replication and backup planning.
- Perform regular capacity and performance management analysis across all databases.
- Assure maximum uptime and minimal downtime using familiarity with High Availability
- Scale the current infrastructure to handle greater levels of reliability and accessibility, as needed, using data storage methods such as sharding, partitioning and data modeling.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate Degree or equivalent experience.
- Two (2) or more years recent experience using PostgreSQL, including PostgreSQL Admin tools with the focus of experience on the latest versions.
- Experience with database security concepts, including access, auditing, and encryption.
- Knowledge and experience in Open Source solutions, include vetting patches, applying patches to the database and the open source tools, libraries, and daemons.
- Knowledge in database synchronization, failover, and recovery.
- SQL programming including writing SPs and PSQL scripting.
- Performance tuning skills.
- Ability to proactively identify, troubleshoot and resolve live database systems issues.
- Knowledge of disaster recovery principles and practices, including planning and testing.
- Hands-on experience with database administration, replication, backup recovery and troubleshooting in co-location environments.
Plusses:
- Experience managing NoSQL systems such as Redis is an added bonus.
- Experience working with configuration management system like Chef and Puppet.
- Experience with cloud computing solutions such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).
