Opportunity: We’re looking for a great Database Administrator for an interesting opportunity in a great company in Downtown Seattle. This is a great opportunity to work across platforms
to support a site with over 50 million users! We need a DBA who is motivated by the most effective methods for managing over 4T of data. Our databases are a hybrid mix of PostgreSQL, MySQL and Oracle, so your versatility
across platforms will keep our databases running smoothly. You will be a significant contributor in understanding our current ERD structure and defining the optimization and re-platforming efforts that will optimize our technology toward a cleaner, meaner,
leaner setup. Besides being a database guru, you have a strong understanding of the UNIX operating system, and are comfortable with networking concepts. You are passionate about standardization
and version control. You bring strong scripting and automation skills and take pride in how far beyond the basic “I can create tarballs and run RMAN” solutions you offer. As you will be supporting a high traffic website, an understanding of web technology and previous experience managing large production facing websites is a HUGE plus.
·
Design consistent build, deploy and management processes for databases and database changes ·
Maintain and administer the large, complex databases that support the Classmates.com website, monitor databases and respond immediately to critical conditions. ·
Defuse possible problems before they become critical; ensure database reliability, availability, and performance; and institute and maintain backup and recovery procedures. ·
Update and upgrade the site and fine-tune production resources to achieve optimal performance. ·
Work with the application support team to identify areas for simplification and unification with system standards for installation, configuration and startup ·
Build and improve upon scripts to automate common tasks ·
You will be part of a bi-weekly on-call rotation and wear a pager.
