About the Role
The Database Administrator (DBA) contributes to Marchex success by designing, implementing, and maintaining database services. Be part of a DBA team
establishing database standards, monitors, and automating support solutions. Support a heterogeneous environment utilizing multiple database technologies including MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. Recommend solutions that require definition
of the physical structure and functional capabilities of databases and require data security and backup/recovery specifications. Possess a natural curiosity about how our systems work, and a desire to participate directly in moving the technology platform
forward as the company grows.
Responsibilities

Ensure data assets are available for use by applications and business clients, recoverable in the advent of system failures; and secure from possible breach.

Proactively monitor the database environment for availability, performance, recoverability, and security. Improve the database architecture based upon data driven analysis.

Automate tasks whenever possible to reduce manual work.

Effective database troubleshooting and performance tuning.

Plan and execute preventative database maintenance as well as software patch management and implementation.

Administer security rights for users and applications within the database environment, ensuring the integrity of database systems and data, and partnering with teammates for integration with access/authentication
architecture and controls.

Actively participate in an on-call rotation and recovery testing.

Capacity planning including equipment, database software licenses, and related requirements and associated costs.

Create and maintain accurate documentation of configurations, standards, procedures, and guidelines.

Lead or actively participate in change and release management control mechanisms and change control processes for database modifications.

Support the vision and values of the company and the team through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors.

Assist in various company initiatives and projects as requested.
Required Skills
-
BSCS degree or related technical degree or equivalent work experience is required.
-
3+ years of enterprise production database experience managing and administering any of the following database technologies: MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle.

3+ years of SQL experience including analysis of complex queries.

3+ years experience in an enterprise scale (7x24) production environment, including the design/implementation of high-availability redundant database architectures, backups and recovery.

3+ years supporting databases on Linux in a production environment.

Ability to administer and manage databases developed primarily for in house applications.

A proven track record of strong diagnostic and problem solving abilities.

Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities, and devise creative solutions to new and existing situations.

DBA certifications a plus.

Knowledge and experience with multiple database technologies a plus.

Ability to work both as an individual contributor and as a member of a team.

Ability to work in a fast paced environment and exhibit personal initiative to address tasks and responsibilities across the production architecture is crucial.
Working Conditions:
The job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout
the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.
