Job Summary
The data engineer is a key member of the team that supports the relational databases at SCHARP. Recently, SCHARP has identified the need for a data warehouse/repository to allow analysts and faculty platform- and tool-agnostic access to a wide variety of study data. In addition to the study data, associated study metadata needs to be collected, extracted and inserted into easily searchable relations.
The data engineer is responsible for developing, implementing and tuning data models based on SCHARP's study data, study metadata and associated business data. In addition to modeling the data, the data engineer is responsible for ETL (extract-transform-load) procedures, working with SCHARP personnel to locate source data, defining the level of quality assurance and security for the data, and setting up programs and processes to ensure the timely and accurate update of this data. S/he is also responsible for developing strategies for data synchronization, integrity and standardization.
The data engineer is also available to work with analysts and faculty to generate pre-determined queries. S/he will serve as a resource to explain the relationship between the tables and schemas in the data warehouse.
As a member of the Data Systems team, the person in this position would serve as a backup database administrator.
