Well, then, you need to check your facts :) Since 9.5, a standy can archive WAL files. See archive_mode and its "new" value : always.

Fair enough. The DB that I'm looking at is on 9.2. I'll definitely keep this in mind as we plan to upgrade later this year. Thanks for the heads-up!
