in initdb.log is :
"Running in noclean mode.  Mistakes will not be cleaned up.
initdb: cannot be run as root
Please log in (using, e.g., "su") as the (unprivileged) user that will
own the server process."

and my OS is centos5 .

Please help me.

So, what does /root/Desktop/postgresql-8.4.1/src/test/regress/log/initdb.log
say?

Also, what OS are you running?
