Good day, I am attempting to install 8.2.3 on Windows. I cannot
install using my DOMAIN user or a local user that are part of the local
ADMINISTRATORS group. I can install if I specify a local user that is not part
of an administrative group. If I use an “admin” user, I see these errors:
processed dir: C:\PostgreSQL\8.2 Access is denied.

Product: PostgreSQL 8.2 -- Installation failed. I found that if this local user was granted admin rights
(part of an admin group) the same errors occur. My domain login also has admin
privileges on this machine. According to the Windows Install FAQ at http://www.postgresql.org/docs/faqs.FAQ_windows.html#2.3,
I should be able to use an administrative user. “2.3) Why do I need a non-administrator account to run
PostgreSQL under? … Note, that with the
release of PostgreSQL 8.2, it is possible to run under a administrative
account. PostgreSQL 8.2 and above are able to irrevocably give up
administrative rights at startup thus ensuring the rest of the system remains
secure in the extremely unlikely event that PostgreSQL becomes
compromised.” Thanks, Michael |
