Uh, the function has to be created by the application.  When you create 
an X-Application that you are tying to PAM, the application doesn't use 
a "standard function" to authenticate.  You must implement one on your 
own.  Perhaps you can peruse the display manager code (XDM, GDM, or KDM) 
and use one out of that.

It really depends on how the application implements or codes the function.
