Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!! I spoke too soon. Still having the
same problem but it is a NIS issue.
When I disabled NIS I could log in w/o that 12 second hesitation. NIS is being served
by
3 boxes, the
main on is a 8 PROC 8 GB 4500 w/ Solaris 8 10/01. Any
Ideas?

from resolv.conf (and dhcpd.conf in my case so they wouldn't be reasserted) speeded things up.

I am setting up a small cluster here on RH 7.2 using NIS. When NIS is
running, log in take an inordinate amount of time-some 12-14 seconds.
Without NIS running, log in is immediate. Has anyone come across this
problem? TIA., -ar
