For context, this is a very common convention on Windows.  For a library foo, the debug dll will be called fooD.dll, whereas the release dll will be just foo.dll. (And notice it is usually foo.dll, not libfoo.dll.)

Thats it.  Building with the -debug/-d option should build openssl with debug symbols (producing, I believe a .pdb file) suitable for running in visual studio
