To be fair - it's more like "intermittent" maintenance rather than "no maintenance".

Is it really such a good idea to remove the original ntfs driver which actually works fine and does not cause any problems when the replacement is so poor and unmaintained?

Also, which APIs are you referring to?  I can take a look into those.
