efifb?)

I tried this with the gentoo-sources (36-rc5 kernel), with the git-sources
(38-rc2 and rc3 kernel) always getting the same problem in dmesg.
I too tried use nouveau as a module or compiled into the kernel, no difference.

I tried tell grub to use "fakebios", but it did not worked (or I did somethng
wrong, im not that familiar with grub/efi/bios)

dmesg output

My monitor is usually connected to my computer with a DVI cable.
When using nouveau and the DVI cable, the monitor goes into sleep mode (and
doesn't wake up, like when the computer is off) as soon as grub finishes
loading the kernel (and the boot process starts). I can't even get a tty.

Yesterday, while testing a Fedora 15 Alpha LiveUSB, i switched the DVI cable to
a VGA one, and to my surprise, it worked perfectly.

so today i managed to get a log, by booting with only DVI connected, and only
after the boot process is complete (i knew it was complete by hearing the
annoying gdm "boop" sound, a sound it does when it starts) connecting the VGA
(to get the output).

Hmmm ok then. I would prefer to use the open source driver instead of nvidia's
but in this case, I have no choice.

What could I do to print a proper error ?

After some time with moderate to high system load I get this message:

This problem still exists with current 2.6.38 kernel. Here's some more
information about it.

The most important part is that the notebook can suspend+resume just fine (and
fast!) when _external_ monitor is connected to its VGA output. The only
annoyance in this case (besides the whole fact that it needs external monitor
to function properly) is that only external monitor shows anything at all up
until the nouveau driver is loaded or when it finishes the resume-from-disk
cycle. So it appears that the whole thing works with external VGA attached.

When only internal (LVDS) panel is connected, the machine never resumes
correctly: it works, it's visible from the network, all processes are working,
but the screen stays blank, even after re-connecting the external monitor.

Attached are two dmesgs with 2.6.38 kernel from bootup. First,
dmesg-2.6.32-good-extvga, shows 2 successful suspend-resume (ram) cycles with
external monitor connected. Another, dmesg-bad-noextvga, shows one
unsuccessful attempt to suspend-resume it, with quite some errors/warnings from
nouveau driver at the end.

I saw it only ones. Just after kernel upgrade from 2.6.38-rc7 to 2.6.38-rc8. I
couldn't reproduce it.

kernel: 2.6.38
xorg-server: 1.9.4

Right now I use 2.6.38.

dmesg log, 2.6.38 with commit 73412c3854c877e5f37ad944ee8977addde4d35a reverted

There's a regression introduced in kernel >=2.6.38-rc8. It's in nouveau/master
(commit 7972f91c24bb66643d76cf635faea78eb184e6b6) as well. Dmesg shows: "GPU
lockup - switching to software fbcon". I've done a git bisect. The problematic
commit is: 73412c3854c877e5f37ad944ee8977addde4d35a "drm/nouveau: allocate
kernel's notifier object at end of block". I reverted that commit on top of the
2.6.38 to confirm the issue.

Reproducible: always
