After months of totally reliable service, this morning I found some strange error messages from nntpcache-1.0.5 (Sunos-4.1.3): In the nntplog, an update failed: Apr 3 07:44:24 auda nntpcached-update[20923]: checking server news.connix.com for 'active' Apr 3 07:44:24 auda nntpcached-update[20923]: list.c:320:No children: list active on news.connix.com error: 503 Timeout after 7200 seconds, closing connection.^M Apr 3 07:44:24 auda nntpcached-update[20923]: update daemon finished Then later, in both nntplog and the errlog: Apr 3 07:55:57 auda nntpcached[20951]: xover.c:646:Operation not supported on socket: unable to lockex 'news.connix.com/misc/rural/23040_xover' Apr 3 07:55:57 auda nntpcached[20951]: xover.c:408:Illegal seek: unable to write/lseek 'news.connix.com/misc/rural/23040_xover' correctly (...unlinking) Apr 3 07:57:00 auda nntpcached[20951]: xover.c:646:Operation not supported on socket: unable to lockex 'news.connix.com/misc/rural/23040_xover' I'd welcome an explanation of what went awry and what I can do to prevent future repeats.
