Greetings, I have been given the job of assessing nntpcache and maybe putting it on a client's server. Can anyone be bothered answering some newbie questions via email? Take heart that I have managed to compile it and get it working on my box at home so my problems are mainly in configuration and understanding. For example:- Q1. 200 opera.iinet.net.au InterNetNews NNRP server INN 1.5.1 17-Dec-1996 ready (posting ok). list overview.fmt 215 Order of fields in overview database. Subject: From: Date: Message-ID: References: Bytes: Lines: Xref:full I assume that I need to add the Xref: to the format - do I include the "full" as well? Do I put each field on its own line? Q2. I want to prime the cache with a few chosen groups during the night. (The link is a 28k modem.) Something like suck. Is there such a beast? Q3. Where can I find an explanation of the precise meanings of the settings in /etc/servers? I need to understand the difference between these examples. #----------------------------------------------------------------------------- # Example: leaf machine, slow link, one NNTP server, no local groups # /* timeouts */ # host:port Interface Active Act.tim Newsgrp Group Xover Arts news.feed.com. DEFAULT 4h 2d 2d 30m 60d 60d %BeginGroups ^^^ # Group pattern Host * news.feed.com. #----------------------------------------------------------------------------- #----------------------------------------------------------------------------- # Example: leaf machine, slow link, one NNTP server, no local groups, one user # /* timeouts */ # host:port Interface Active Act.tim Newsgrp Group Xover Arts news.feed.com. DEFAULT 4h 2d 2d 1m 60d 60d %BeginGroups ^^ # Group pattern Host * news.feed.com. #----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q4 Is this a stable product? I have seen several patches suggested during the last week and they do not seem to be addressed in 1.0.2. Thanks for your patience, Lindsay
