I tried to force nntpcache (version 0.93.3UL) to reread its configuration files by doing kill -HUP `cat /var/spool/nntpcache/nntpcache.pid.DEFAULT:119` Nntpcache exited with the following messages in the error-log: Oct 20 05:22:07 auda /usr/local/bin/nntpcached[28826]: nntpcache.c:830:Interrupted system call: caught SIGHUP, restarting... Oct 20 05:22:07 auda /usr/local/bin/nntpcached[28826]: history.c:272:No such file or directory: fatal error: couldn't open/stat cache.history This is on Sunos-4.1.3. /var/spool/nntpcache/cache.history has 644 permissions and is owned by news. With that exception, and the fact that the rfc931 code for getting the name of the user fails (all log entries are `unknown@machine-name'), nntpcache has been reliable. -- Ronald Florence Maple Lawn Farm, Stonington, CT ron@mlfarm.com http://www.connix.com/~mlfarm
