problems compiling nntpcached on linux

greetings,

i'm having some problems compiling nntpcached on a linux box -

Linux lennon.vianet.net.au 2.0.36 #4 Mon Apr 5 11:51:05 WST 1999 i686 unknown
Red Hat Linux release 5.2 (Apollo)

this box happily compiles the kernel, squid and perl, so it's not a problem
with the compiler.

i've tried 2.3.3 -

[root@lennon nntpcache-2.3.3]# make
--snip--
make[2]: Entering directory `/root/src/nntpcache-2.3.3/src'
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I../cf -I../common -I../libproff
-I../libconfused -I../mmap -I../libmmalloc -I../libdbz -g -O2 -Wall -pipe
-c expire.c
expire.c: In function `getFreeFS':
expire.c:14: storage size of `fs' isn't known
expire.c:15: warning: implicit declaration of function `statvfs'
expire.c:14: warning: unused variable `fs'
make[2]: *** [expire.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/src/nntpcache-2.3.3/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/src/nntpcache-2.3.3'
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2

and the latest beta (which apparently fixes this problem) -

[root@lennon nntpcache-2.4.0b3]# make
--snip--
make[2]: Entering directory `/root/src/nntpcache-2.4.0b3/src'
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I../cf -I../common -I../libproff
-I../libconfused -I../mmap -I../libmmalloc -I../libdbz -g -O2 -Wall -pipe
-c expire.c
expire.c: In function `getFreeFS':
expire.c:20: storage size of `fs' isn't known
expire.c:21: warning: implicit declaration of function `statvfs'
expire.c:20: warning: unused variable `fs'
make[2]: *** [expire.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/src/nntpcache-2.4.0b3/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/src/nntpcache-2.4.0b3'
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2

i tried to get to the archives for this list, but the web-based version
doesn't appear to exist any more and the ftp version returned connect
refused, so i'm sorry if this is a faq.

i would prefer to compile this thing myself (ie i don't want to install the
rpm).

i would appreciate any help in resolving this issue.

thanks,

byron
