The main problem I (hope to) remember on DU was the chroot environment. After doing the chroot, DU tries to solve all needed files, libs etc. out of this chroot'ed filesystem - the program dumped from one to another. I removed the chroot options - using ordinary filesystem - and nntpcached came up ans was running ...
