NEXT GENERATION OF CLINICIAN-RESEARCHERS TO UNITE AT NIH FORUM

WHAT:
More than 270 medical, dental, and veterinary students from 60 schools will attend the ninth annual National Institutes of Health Clinical Investigator Student Trainee (CIST) Forum.

WHY:
The CIST Forum will convene students participating in basic, translational, and clinical research fellowships-year-long enrichment programs at academic medical centers and at the NIH-for a two-day meeting with their peers, program leaders, and established clinical and translational researchers from around the country.

WHO:
NIH Director Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., will deliver the opening address at 8:30 a.m., and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony S. Fauci, M.D., will give the keynote speech at 6 p.m. on Oct. 20. Other speakers include Jesse Goodman, M.D., chief scientist and deputy commissioner for science at the Food and Drug Administration; NIH principal investigators; and alumni of the various research fellowships represented at the forum.

WHEN/WHERE:
The forum is a two-day event, held Oct. 20, at the NIH Natcher Conference Center (Building 45) and Oct. 21, at the Clinical Center (Building 10).
