NEI ANNOUNCES THE COMPARISON OF AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION TREATMENTS TRIAL (CATT) STUDY RESULTS COMPARING THE EFFICACY OF AVASTIN AND LUCENTIS

WHAT:
The Comparison of AMD Treatments Trial (CATT) studied two treatment options - Lucentis and Avastin - for patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Four treatment groups were evaluated: Lucentis given monthly, Lucentis given as needed, Avastin given monthly and Avastin given as needed. The study's first year results will be reported to the press at this telebriefing.

The study was funded by the National Eye Institute (NEI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and will be published online in the New England Journal of Medicine on Thursday, April 28, 2011. The results will be announced by the NEI and the study chair. Speakers will deliver brief remarks, followed by a question and answer session with the media.
