STATEMENT FROM NIH DIRECTOR FRANCIS S. COLLINS, M.D., PH.D., ON THE DEATH OF SCIENCE REPORTER, CONSTANCE HOLDEN

"All of us at NIH share the deep loss of a respected and admired colleague, Constance Holden, reporter for Science Magazine. Constance died tragically in an accident on Monday, April 12. She was an accomplished journalist, covering NIH for Science since 1970. Personally, I had many interviews with Constance over the years and always found her fair, focused on getting the science right, and insightful in her writing. She contributed greatly to telling the story of science advances over the last forty years. We will miss her energy, passion for biomedical research, and dedication to her craft. Our hearts go out to her family and colleagues."
