RESEARCH CENTERS CHOSEN TO CONDUCT NATIONAL CHILDREN'S STUDY
News Briefing Thursday, September 29, 1:00 PM ET

WHAT:	
Federal officials will announce the names and locations of up to 8 vanguard
study sites that will be the first to pilot test and conduct the National
Children's Study, the largest, most comprehensive, long-term study of
environmental effects on human development conducted to date. More than
100,000 children across the United States will participate, as researchers
will follow children from before birth until age 21. Study scientists will
examine family genetics, neighborhoods and schools, chemical exposures, food
and water, as well as children's social and behavioral environments.

The National Children's Study is led by a consortium of federal agency
partners, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services --
through the National Institutes of Health (the National Institute of Child
Health and Human Development and the National Institute of Environmental
Health Sciences) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- and the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
