  so you're saying that you were persistently getting a black screen
boot, but that that simple tweak solved the problem?  i'm not scared
to admit that i still don't understand *how* that fixes things, i was
just following the guidance of the appropriate mailing list and, so
far, things have been working.  i'm sure there will be a formal fix in
the near future.
