Does it have GCC tools and XWindow? The kernel is just the kernel. It doesn't come with any tools or programs, like ls, ps, GCC or XWindows. If you're installing your new kernel into a system that already has the tools, then the toolset that was present before will be the toolset that's present afterwards, just the kernel changes.
