What's the meaning of a stopped process

Hi,

Some signals, such as SIGSTOP, SIGTSTP, SIGTTIN, SIGTTOU, can cause a
process to stop. What's the meaning of a ***stopped*** process? Or,
what happens in kernel if a process stop by these signals?
