I compiled my kernel(for x86_64) and i was wondering why it had to create an x86_64 directory under the arch directory?
I assume that it is creating the directory so that binary objects, created by the build, can be placed there rather than the x86 directory. This may be to retain historical locations for x86_64 binaries or may be to ensure that there is no confusion as to whether the binaries produced are for 32 or 64 bit x86 machines.
