driver for Brando USB Thermometer

This thing costs only $20 and they accept PayPal:

So I'm thinking I might purchase one. The problem, of course, is whether it's supported or not. Their customer support is not helpful - I asked them about Linux and they gave me some kind of copy/paste canned reply.

So it's:
1. Either the device is supported, and then I have no further concerns
2. Or it's not, so then I'll have to actually write a driver

#1 - what would be the odds? I see that other USB devices made by Brando are recognized by Linux, I wonder if they perhaps used the same USB chip, or something like that? Anybody here more knowledgeable can share some thoughts?

#2 - I only wrote a dummy kernel module 8 years ago, but never a full driver. How hard would it be to write a driver? I remember seeing an article by Greg KH about writing drivers for USB temperature sensors, maybe I can use that as a guideline?
