significant value of XIP?

are there any instances of the linux kernel being run via XIP that
makes a noticeable difference? given the speed/cost of flash versus
the same of RAM, i would have thought that the inherent value of XIP
has been decreasing year after year, but i'm willing to be
enlightened.
