Erik - you are correct.  The boards are different and as it turns out, it
was the kernel command line where one board has 32M of memory and while I
thought the other did as well, it only has 8M.  so, it was probably getting
beyond that 8M limit and accessing different ram and somehow was able to
work through all of that, for the most part.  

Sorry for the noise but it was one of those weird things that caused
different crashes but seems to work now.  We're going to up the memory and
see what we can do with that.
