Doubt on packet_type structure

Hi,

In the packet_type structure , I find that the net_device dev field is the pointer to the device for which the protocol is enabled.

We receive number of packets for a particular interface(device) , which may have different function handlers(each for each protocol),  so that particular interface has to accordingly deal with each protocol, how can we say that a particular device will have only a particular protocol enabled.
