USB Driver and kernel architecture dependency?

Hello,
I got kernel 2.6.18 on my AVR board. Now I have to port one
USB image sensor on it. It says, the API's of that sensor are
available for ARM architecture (what does that mean?).
My question is does USB driver API are dependent on kernel
architecture.
What changes I will need to do in those available API to port it for AVR.?
