pid 0

I inserted some printks in pci-gart.c to find out who was using dma and how much data is actually mapped. I used current->pid to find out the pid initiating the transfer but strangely at most of the times it shows the pid as 0 whereas sometimes its right. I couldnt figure out the reason for such behaviour. Can anyone explain the reason for this.
