swiotlb in x86 and x86-64 query

Hi All,

The lib/swiotlb.c code effectively is used for simulating hardware
IOMMU unit.Am i right?

I see most of the discussions over net using swiotlb related to x86-64
architecture only and not related to x86, why so?
Is swiotlb specifically only for 64 bit architecures?

Atleast this is what i can make out from the location of swiotlb
specific code's location under the vanilla tree.

Any pointers?

Thanks
