[4294671,594000] VFS: Cannot open root device "sad1" or unknown-block(0,0)
This should have been sda1 but sadly it is "sad1" , Make those
changes if you are manually entering the filesystem
And most importantly while upgrading remove root = Label = / and
just make it /dev/sda1 in grub.conf.
If you have chosen the right configuration options for Block and IDE ,
it will boot like a charm.

I'm afraid that I've seen too many people fix bugs by looking at
debugger output, and that almost inevitably leads to fixing the
symptoms rather than the underlying problems.
