[4294671,594000] VFS: Cannot open root device "sad1" or unknown-block(0,0) This should have been sda1 but sadly it is "sad1" , Make those changes if you are manually entering the filesystem And most importantly while upgrading remove root = Label = / and just make it /dev/sda1 in grub.conf.
