What is a loopback device? Why is a ramdisk, with an ext2 file system called a loopback device?
As far as I understand, a "loopback device" refers to a normal file that hosts a filesystem. For e.g. if you create a filesystem on any file, it would be called a loopback device that you can mount with -o loop .
