Hi,
Check the root=.....kernel option in grub.conf. Try using something like root=/dev/hd..... partition corresponding to where you mount root instead of the label /.
Also assure that you have selected the appropriate drivers of your IDE device

Hi,
I compiled a 2.6.19 kernel on GCC 4.1.1 and FC4. It compiled fine, but when after doing make install, make modules_install and rebooting, I get a kernel panic. I tried all configurations, but this is what I get:
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block (0,0)
Sometimes, the block is (8,3).
I tried the same thing on an FC6 machine too. But I get the same kernel panic again. Kindly help me with this.
Warm Regards,
Anoop J
