Hey all,
What exactly happens when we say, make modules_install during the
kernel compilation.

The modules are moved to /lib/modules/<kernel-version>/ .

Many documents suggest to change the /lib/modules to some other name
say, /lib/modules.old. Because the new modules may conflict the
existing ones and cause problems whenver the system is rebooted.

Only if you are compiling the kernel sources for the currently used kernel.
