Not explicitly, but there is the C-FAQ which is very useful when trying to understand the intricacies of the C language, especially pointers and arrays. It's available at serveral places on the 'net, for instance http://www.faqs.org/faqs/C-faq/faq/ .

I don't know if this particular issue is addressed there though.

(While this doesn't directly belong on this list, the kernel code tends to get quite chummy with pointers and so has an indirect bearing on understanding kernel code).
