In my case, i used real machine.

because vmware boot speed is very slow,
and i didn't want long booting time after meeting kernel panic

in Redhat site, there are some patches that make 2.4 kernel run the scheduler O(1) time.

Thats really interesting - porting 2.6 kernels
scheduler to 2.4 - were there any interesting
observations AND what was the test environment used -
a virtual environ like VMware or UML. Is is the
testing generally done in virtual or a real environ.

how about this?

Port 2.6 Kernel's O(1) Scheduler to 2.4 kernel :)

I have done this in my university class, i think
this is a good work
for understanding linux kernel.

another things, for understanding virtual memory,
write some
monitoring program for paging system.

Best way to learn the kernel is to start
writing/modifying code. I
have done kernel compilation now want to do more.
Please give me
specific problem to work on that is suitable for a
beginner kernel
programmer
