Mandrake is pretty good.  I believe it will detect it and give you two
options to choose at boot time.
One for Uni and one for multi processor support.

I am going to install mandrake 9.1 with 2.4.29 kernel on a dual 
processor system.do i need to compile kernel such that it supports 
multiprocessors or it will detect everything?
