SATA and dell 9100

Hi,

My new dell 9100 comes with SATA drive. I was only able to install linux after i changed the BIOS setting to some sort of
IDE emulation. Right now when i have /dev/hda style devices.

I assume that i can change and support SATA in the 2.6.10 kernel. But not sure what and how.
But will the change from /dev/hda style to /dev/sda work? or does this mean a new install.

I have read about updating GRUB and fstab files. I don't want to make my install useless.
