How are swap_cache_info.noent_race, swap_cache_info.exist_race incremented?

I am trying to understand exactly what these counters are and mean. The
only place in the code I find them is in the .c file where they are
defined as part of the swap_cache_info struct.

I became interested in them after looking at sysrq output from a hung
system. There was a line that reported "race 0+118". Usually it says
"race 0+0". Any ideas on what this means either?

Thanks,

greg
