I think you can use crossdev tool (in gentoo project) to cross-compile the 
mips64 with something like:

crossdev -t <mips64-arch>

Also you can use some parameters like (--b binutils), (--g gcc), (--k kernel), 
(--l libc), or set stages (-s0, -s1, -s2, -s3) for the cross-compiling level.
