unable to decode machine check exception

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hello all,

My Linux box boots and runs for quite a while, then suddenly freezes and may show this message.
Most often I can find it only in the syslog file.

I ran memtest86 : all goes well.
I tried parsemce, it doesn't explain where could be the problem.

I tried to decode this MC exception using the Intel software developper's manual volume 3, but I must say
it is very difficult for me as I don't know intel families (06H or 0FH) and what is exactly reported in the bank 0.
(IA32_MCi_STATUS MSRs ?)
So at the end of the bridge I never managed to do it

Is there somewhere a more detailed explanation of what occur ?
Could somebody help me on this ?
Thank you in advance for any help.

My processor is a Intel pentium 4 at 1.5Ghz
the kernel release is 2.6.8.1-24mdk

Here is the syslog message :
Mar  7 20:19:37 phlsys kernel: CPU 0: Machine Check Exception: 0000000000000004

here is what it is decoded by parsemce
CPU 0
Status: (4) Machine Check in progress.

Thank you in advance for any help.
