Thanx a lot 4 ur help on Insmod error..... with all your suggestion i finally got it done..... Among a lot of suggestions the following one worked out for me...
gcc -c hello.c -I/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8/include
even though with a warning..... something like: "tainted kernel module loaded with warning".
