boot problem

Hi guys
I have an IBM thinkpad with a dual boot Windows Xp and
RH Linux 8.0. The boot manager is GRUB

When i switch from XP to Linux, the first time, it
brings up a grey screen after starting up all the
daemons. It displays the console login screen, and
while entering the KDE GUI login screen, it
freezes..When I hard boot it again, it will startup
fine.

Any clues?

thanks
nachiket
