In fact, similar ideas have been done. :) Traditional systems frequently
save crash information to swap, which gets recovered at boot time. Take
a look at savecore(8) on many systems. (Just not Linux systems.)

LKCD (linux kernel crash dump) can provide similar information, but it
is my understanding that it has a certain stigma..
