You _may_ see the output from sysrq in an xterm _IFF_ you are running
the xconsole variant (-C). sysrq output gets sent to the console, either
VGA or framebuffer (if you've got a video card) or serial console (if
you've set that up). Not in X.

I saw a wise piece of advice somewhere: Kernel programming and X
don't mix.
