The symbolic link from asm-i386 to the asm directory is entirely a thing
of the past .. i don't think it has been needed since the 2.0 kernels.

You shouldn't run just "make" all by itself. "make bzImage" or "make
vmlinux" or "make vmlinuz", etc...
