That did it! Many thanks! Not only are the interrupts back where they 
should be, but ethernet, at least, is working properly. (The only USB 
device I have right now is a joystick, and I haven't gotten far enough 
into the installation to be able to test that.)

I'm not sure yet if ACPI is configured. At the moment, I'm using a 
Debian-compiled kernel and still have to figure out where they put the 
kernel config file.
