swapping

hii all ,
i am working on porting of the linux kernel
(2.4+) on our switch card. The card has 128 Mb of ram
and its a 603e PPC board.

While i am thru with most of the bootstrap and board
initialization changes, im stuck on the swapping part.
AFAIK kernel's kswapd daemon will start swapping out
pages only under memory pressure. If the mem
consumption is less than the onboard ram then i suppose
no swapping should take place. Am i right here ???
What will be the scenario like if i dont specify a swap
device at all ? however this seems to be a crude soln
and might cause probs later.

What about disabling the kswapd daemon all together
?, and in that scenario what will the state be like if
the memory consumption reaches the threshold (128 Mb) ?

The processes to be run on the card can consume a
maximum of 100 Mb and will under most scenarios not be
killed or new processes launched ..

Can smbody throw some light or provide a starting
point ...

regards

Nishant
